Fully Funded Research Masters Opportunity in GMIT for GPA/WGPA members

The GPA and WGPA are delighted to announce a fully funded 1-year full-time Research Masters opportunity with Galway Mayo Institute of Technology to examine the sleep quality and possible related injury incidence among inter-county GAA players (both male & female).

Background to Study

The findings of the recent ESRI Report (Kelly et al, 2018) into the demands of the inter county game have found that over half of players do not get the recommended hours of sleep per night which can compromise recovery and potentially increase risk of injury.

This study will be one of the most comprehensive pieces of research carried out by the GPA & WGPA in collaboration with GMIT across male and female playing populations who participate in Gaelic games at an elite level. It will seek to establish how players recover and prepare for training and game play in light of sleep quality, and sleep patterns and will investigate the role sleep plays in recovery and injury reduction strategies in male and female populations.
