The GPA Education Support Programme supports intercounty players at every stage of their educational journey, recognising that education takes many forms and pathways.
We support current and past players whether they are entering third-level education for the first time, returning to education to upskill, pursuing postgraduate or executive qualifications such as MBAs, or undertaking professional and vocational training.
Through tailored guidance and access to education supports, the GPA empowers players to make informed choices and build sustainable careers alongside and beyond their playing careers.
Education, in all its forms, is central to long-term player wellbeing and the GPA is proud to support our members every step of the way.
Watch the video above to learn more about the GPA Education Support Programme and how we support players across academic, professional, and vocational education pathways.

Third-Level
Scholarship
The GPA Third Level Scholarship is our primary education support for GPA members undertaking full-time or part-time third-level education.
The scholarship supports over 800 GPA members each year, helping players to balance the demands of college life alongside the commitments of an intercounty playing career. With significant time constraints placed on players, the scholarship is designed to ease pressure and provide meaningful support during their academic journey.

Application Process
Applications for the GPA Third Level Scholarship open between November and December each year. All eligible GPA members will receive an application link directly by email.
Applicants are required to submit official documentation from their third-level institution as part of the application process.
Successful applicants will be notified and scholarships awarded in March of the following year. Members are advised to keep an eye on emails from gpaservice@gaelicplayers.com for further details and updates.
Education & Training Fund
The GPA Education and Training Fund is designed to support GPA members who are not currently in third-level education, ensuring that all players are equally supported on their learning and education journeys.
This fund provides support for a wide range of professional, vocational, and upskilling courses, recognising that education extends beyond academic pathways. Supported courses include, but are not limited to, Green Cert and farming qualifications, apprenticeships, beauty certifications, Pilates and fitness courses, and other professional training opportunities aligned with a player’s career goals and personal interests.
Application Process
To apply for the GPA Education and Training Fund, players must have an active GPA membership account.
Once logged in, navigate to Applications → Education Funding → Create Scholarship, where you can begin an Education and Training Fund application.
As part of the application, players must upload official proof of course registration and full payment. Applications will only be reviewed once all required documentation has been submitted.
Applications are reviewed on a monthly basis. Once approved, payments are issued within one week of approval.

Enhanced Scholarships
The GPA Enhanced Scholarship is designed to support GPA members who are undertaking postgraduate or MBA programmes and are seeking to further their education and career opportunities.
This scholarship is unique in that it supports players who may not be in a position to commit to college sport. It is an academic scholarship that ensures players are supported in pursuing higher education alongside the demands of elite performance and professional development.
The GPA is proud to work with a network of strong partner colleges across Ireland, offering Enhanced Scholarships that are partially or fully funded. These scholarships are jointly funded by the GPA and the respective partner college, helping to ease the financial burden of postgraduate and MBA study.
Application Process
To apply for the GPA Enhanced Scholarship, or to seek further information, members should contact the GPA by emailing scholarships@gaelicplayers.com.
Members are advised to keep an eye on GPA communications and social channels for updates on Enhanced Scholarships, information events, and key deadlines.
The application process is competitive. Applicants will be required to submit a CV and cover letter, and successful scholars are selected jointly by the GPA and the partner college.
Members considering an MBA programme are strongly encouraged to register their interest early, with a deadline of end of April in the relevant year. For postgraduate Enhanced Scholarships, applications typically close at the end of June each year.
