Player Development

Ensuring the development of players in their careers, education and general lives, during and after their intercounty careers

Personal Development Coaching

The GPA Personal Development Coaching Programme provides the person behind the player with the opportunity to build on the core elements of emotional intelligence, to build a solid foundation for personal and professional growth.

Personal strengths are explored and discussed, while developing a personal development plan to manage the demands of a dual-career. This programme empowers members to recognise the potential they have as dual athletes and how best to maximise the opportunity.

The individual has a renewed sense of purpose and optimism as he becomes more motivated, empowered and equipped to operate their personal best.

The GPA Rookie Camp

The GPA Rookie Camp brings together a group of young & upcoming intercounty players from across the country, in both hurling and football. It’s an introduction for players to their association, as well as what’s to be expected, and what’s expected of them.

It provides a great opportunity to support players in making what can be a difficult transition to play senior inter county football or hurling. The recent ESRI research has indicated ever growing demands on county players, issues quite often exasperated on younger players, so it is important we support this group and also help develop the next generation of leaders and role models in their counties and communities.

Our next rookie camp will be running in Autumn, in which we’ll be encouraging you to put players forward to attend on the day. Last year, we facilitated workshops on;

– Building resilience

– Social media & brand management

– Player development & welfare

– Nutrition

Jim Madden GPA Leadership Programme

The Jim Madden GPA Leadership Programme develops a group of county players from Hurling, Camogie and Gaelic football with the necessary skills, motivation and experience to become real leaders in the community.

Many of our Gaelic athletes have exceptional leadership qualities. These skills are honed through the experience and resilience developed as elite players in a highly competitive environment, where high performance is often predicated on the player’s own ability to lead by example encouraging greater levels of performance from team-mates.

The Jim Madden GPA Leadership Programme establishes a learning pathway for both male and female players who wish to develop these qualities which can be harnessed both for their personal development and for the benefit of the community.

This programme is made possible thanks to the support of Michael Madden and his family who have dedicated the curriculum to the memory of their late father Jim who was a tireless grassroots GAA and community activist in Tipperary.
