Gaelic Players Association (GPA) CEO Vacancy

Chief Executive Officer Vacancy

The Gaelic Players Association (GPA) was established by players for players, and today is the official representative body for all county players in both football and hurling.  Representing over 2,300 current players and an increasing number of past players, this not - for-profit organisation continues to make a real difference in the lives of those who play or have played our national games.

The organisation has represented our county players for almost twenty years.  We are supporting, educating and developing our athletes, both male and female in a wide variety of skills.  We are developing entrepreneurial leaders with business startups and helping others focus on what’s important as they transition away from the playing field. The GPA is now operating on the international stage, promoting our games to new audiences and building awareness around player welfare.

These successes have boosted the GPA’s national and international profile and the Association is experiencing substantial growth in services as a result. We are confident that along with our Commercial Partners we can continue to build a home for all members of our GPA family. In recent years we partnered with the Women’s Gaelic Players Association (WGPA) and we look forward to building this relationship further.

The GPA now seeks to appoint an experienced, motivated and motivating CEO who will oversee the organization’s day to day management and lead it to continued growth and success.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader with excellent people skills and the ability to establish and develop positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including our players, the GAA, Government Bodies, commercial partners, individual supporters and staff. The CEO will inspire confidence, have the ability to develop and implement operational policies and possess the drive and skills to deliver the GPA vision outlined in its Strategic Plan.

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced individual with strong leadership and managerial qualities combined with a passion for our games.

All enquiries and requests for a detailed job description should be emailed to The Closing date for applications is Friday the 27th of April 2018 at 5pm.

Statement on behalf of the Gaelic Players Association

Players must be consulted on fixture changes – GPA

Players must be consulted on fixture changes

27 March 2018

The GPA have had a huge response from members on the panels impacted by this weekend’s cancelled division four football league games. The players are angry that once again they were not consulted on key policy decisions that directly impact them. Alternative dates were put forward by a number of squads but it appears that these were not taken into consideration by decision makers. In both cases support was given by County boards for the proposed alternative dates.

Speaking today President of the GPA, David Collins said: “The GPA have been working closely in recent days with the teams involved and we were very disappointed that the players were not asked for their input before the games were cancelled. We appreciate that the County Boards are under pressure and that adverse weather conditions have complicated the inter-county fixture planner, but there is no excuse for not consulting players before announcing the cancellations. These cancellations will cause significant disruption to teams who are preparing for the championship. The GPA will continue to meet with GAA representatives to make the case that such unilateral decisions are unacceptable and must not be repeated in future. Open dialogue with players is a far superior approach to handling situations like this.”

In the name of the father

In the name of the father

Tuesday 3rd July 2012 my life changed forever. After a routine return home from work, I was met by my Mummy at the front door of our home. As I turned my key in the lock, her words stopped me in my tracks. ‘Daddy has cancer’.
